The island of Salina, divides from the island of Lipari from a channel white 4 kilometers and deep 330 meters, it is formed by two promitains that go to join in the valley of Valdichiesa.
The top of the mountain " Pit of the ferms " ( 963 mt ) it represents the tallest point in the island and the whole archipelago. Observing the island from far, it's understood why ancently it was called twin since uniform appears in two equal parts practically.

 

The name of the Island derives from a lake of salty water situated in the south part of the island, that was used once as saltpare. The island is rich of thick mediterranean vegetation tipically.

 

The island, terraced and exploited wisely with cultivations of capers, vineyards and fruit trees; island is famous for the production of Malvasia; it is a grape with " The grapes to grains of Sun ", that produces a dreamed wine envied in the world from all the gourmets.
Salina has a trapezoidal
form and the coastal development is of 24 Kilometers. It is the second island of the archipelago either for extension that for number of inhabitans ; instead it holds the first place for fertility of ground.
